Railway Apprenticeships in Bury
A career in the railway industry is incredibly rewarding, yet incredibly dangerous – hence why we provide a wide range of railway courses in Bury.
For anyone who has never worked on the railway before, or has very little experience, an apprenticeship is a great choice. Our apprenticeship schemes are designed to educate candidates – not only of the dangers of working trackside but to ensure they have an understanding of how things work and what they need to do in order to work safely.
The great thing about apprenticeships is that they give you an insight into what it’s really like to work on the railway infrastructure.
Personal Track Safety is a pre-requisite for anyone who wishes to work on (or close to) the railway line.
Our PTS training in Bury will teach the basics of track safety – ensuring individuals know what their roles and responsibilities are and to prepare them for the challenge of working in such a demanding environment.
The course usually takes a full day and, upon completion, candidates will be awarded a PTS card (sometimes called a Sentinel Card). Without one of these, you won’t be insured to work on the railway infrastructure – be it the station, platform or down on the banks of the track.
What does the course entail?
Here at Real Skills, we offer on-site and in-house training for up to 12 candidates at once. No matter which type of training you choose, the course objectives remain the same for PTS in Bury and applicants will have to complete an e-learning module.
The e-learning module tests their basic knowledge and understanding and, as always, we will use the highest quality materials to enhance their learning experience.
There’s no denying that PTS courses in Bury can be intense and there will be a lot of information to take in. But, the good news is, it’s not all classroom-based. Candidates will have the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learnt in the classroom by undertaking practical assessments (under the supervision of our trainers).
PTS Bury course objectives
The main aim of our railway training in Bury is to educate candidates.
By the end of the training, they should know what they need to do to keep themselves (and their team) safe. This includes how to avoid the risk of electrocution from overhead power lines and being struck by a train.
Aside from this, it teaches candidates the importance of following a safe system of work. On successful completion, they will be able to correctly interpret the PTS handbook and understand the Sentinel Scheme.
