The Career Academy is a training programme specifically designed to give 16-18 year olds the skills, confidence and opportunity to get their career started in the Rail industry.
Real Skills aim to help every 16-18 year old find a job or an Apprenticeship, there is an option to suit everyone. In addition to learning practical railway skills, we will support you and develop your Maths and English and Employability Skills.
You will undertake a programme of activities specifically designed to help you to find work. This will include things like communication, application forms and writing letters, interview skills as well as an opportunity to undertake the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
The Pre-Apprenticeship aims to give students a basic track knowledge of maintenance/renewals, including rail replacement, sleeper changing and track geometry adjustment. Students will also learn about Employee rights and responsibilities, health and safety legislation and manual handling.
You will also have the opportunity to achieve the following qualifications:
- Functional Skills (English, Maths & ICT)
- Development of Personal & Social Skills
