Applying for a Personal Track Safety Course

Specialising in training opportunities, Real Skills Training are your go-to training provider of Personal Track Safety. Our services are tailored towards the needs of individuals and businesses alike, ensuring that you pursue a fulfilling career in the railway industry.

The Personal Track Safety Course that we provide is guaranteed to develop candidate’s knowledge, providing them with an insight into what it’s really like to work within the boundary of the railway track.

Before you can start working for the railway industry, there are several factors that you need to take into consideration; including the following…

Get Sponsored.

To apply for the Personal Track Safety Course, you need to have a sponsor that can provide you with any advice and support that you require. Sponsorship is a requirement of any individual that is looking to attend the training programme that we provide; without sponsorship, you won’t be able to book a place on the PTS Course!

If you already work for the rail industry, you should ask them to sponsor you. Your sponsor needs to be approved by Network Rail, to ensure that you have a Sentinel Profile to secure future job opportunities.

Undergo Health Assessments.

For anyone planning to work on or near the railway, you need to be fit for the job. Candidates need to undergo medical, drug and alcohol testing before a job offer can be made.

The purpose of these assessments is to make sure that there is no compromise made to safety. An assessment needs to be carried out before you can apply for the PTS Course- so make sure that you’re prepared!

Do your research.

The Personal Track Safety Course was initially introduced to raise awareness about track safety and its importance. Here at Real Skills, we provide the PTS Course to familiarise candidates with the essential information that is required of them when working on or close to the railway line.

Any employers need to comply with stringent policies and the PTS training is just one way that they can do so. PTS is a legal requirement of any individual that works on the railway line- employers cannot employ anyone without it!

In order to apply for the Personal Track Safety Course, you need to have completed the E-Learning Module. This module can be sent to you by your sponsor, once you have booked your place on the course.

Who can apply?

The Personal Track Safety Course is perfect for anyone who wants to work safely and effectively, without compromising their own safety or the safety of others.

Whether you’re wanting to work at the train station, on the platform or the banking of the track, you might want to consider the PTS Course that we offer at Real Skills Training! Our training is suitable for any candidate, aged 16 or over, and provides an entry-level qualification to pursue a career in the rail industry!

Training Material.

By applying for the PTS Course, you’ll instantly have the opportunity to broaden your level of skill, allowing you to work more reliably, trackside. Within our training course, rules and regulations will be made clear and you’ll benefit from hands-on experience. We believe that providing you with practical and theoretical training will offer more substance and provide you with all you need to know about railway safety.

Course Objectives.

At the end of the educational programme, you should be able to demonstrate an understanding of rail safety, putting into practice what you have learnt. We offer this course to make sure that employees are aware of their surroundings and know how to prevent any hazardous consequences from arising.

The training providers, here at Real Skills Training, have a wealth of knowledge and experience to offer, so you can rest assured that you’re in capable hands. They will state what you will be expected to do and outline ways in which you can carry out work effectively.

One of the outcomes of the PTS Course is to develop communication and teamwork skills, ultimately enhancing your performance and ability to work safely.

The Personal Track Safety Course is made up of a written exam and a practical assessment, both of which need to be passed if candidates are to continue pursuing a career in the railway industry.

Candidates will be assessed on their interpretation of the Personal Track Safety Handbook and their ability to follow a Safe System of Work.

Obtaining a PTS Card.

When it comes to chasing the career that you’ve always dreamed of, you can count on Real Skills Training to provide you with the required accreditation. On completion of the PTS Course, you will be awarded a PTS Card which is valid for up to 5 years. This card states that you’re fully qualified to work on the railways.

After the 5 years, the PTS Card will need to be renewed if you’re to continue working trackside, therefore you’ll need to reapply for the PTS Course and retake the training and assessments. PTS costs are covered by your sponsor (usually your current employer), however, should you lose your PTS Card, you will need to pay for a replacement one.
